TAS Logo Resized.jpg

The Take Away Special says farewell to the year that was and looks forward to the year ahead with our 2017/2018 Special. We welcome our Special Guests - including art writer/academic Christina Chau, writer Matt Roberts, and actor/writer Adriane Daff - to answer the following questions: Best Christmas traditions with friends/family? What do you now (as an adult) wish you wanted to be when you grew up (as a kid)? What's the worst and/or best Secret Santa gift you have received? Name a bad film you secretly like that isn't The Room? What would you if your beloved dad was also Donald Trump?” What follows is 90 minutes of unbridled chat that veers between the fun and the serious as we contemplate the holidays, resolutions and whether Home Alone 2: Lost In New York is the superior movie. Please enjoy! Thank you to everyone who submitted questions and who keeps listening to this thing - we wish you all a safe, relaxing and rewarding holiday season!

Episode 41: Anne Barnetson, Customer Service Wolf, Good Books You Should Read

Episode 41 Anne Barnetson.jpg

We are back with a brand new episode! Yes, for this episode we are especially delighted to have the talented illustrator Anne Barnetson in the studio to converse with, best known for her illustration work and the comic-strip, Customer Service Wolf. We discuss Anne's interest in art, drawing, the development of style and the creation of an idea about a wolf dealing with silly book store customers. As someone who reads regularly, working in book stores for ten years, Anne also provides us with a helpful list of Good Books You Should Read based on her own reconnaissance - all of which sound fascinating and worth checking out! A relaxed, fun conversation with one of our favourite artists and illustrators that also delves into trademark Take Away Special segments.

Episode 40: Geoffrey Power-King, Millennial Entertainer

“Sadly all my reviews have been positive…” So are the fortunes of millennial entertainer Geoffrey Power-King, our very special guest for this fortieth episode of The Take Away Special. From performing stand-up before interstate punk bands at 208 to telling jokes unexpectedly through DJ sets, Geoffrey sheds some light on his process, his jokes and his interests that range from Russia the country to Ariana Grande to a Jack Johnson listening party scheduled for 2018. To say more would spoil the directions and misdirections this long-form chat takes, resulting in one of the strangest episodes we’ve ever had the pleasure to record.

Episode 39: Vidya Rajan, Point Heathcote

Episode 39 Vidya.jpg

In a brand new episode of The Take Away Special, we welcome to the mic improviser/performer/writer Vidya Rajan as the best guest ever! What follows is an engaging and funny conversation that covers Vidya's journey towards working in improv, what improv has taught her about writing and performing, then writing and performing in Fringe Festivals, and even moving on to work in theatre and advertisements, and the different experiences of each. For 'Secret Perth', Vidya paints a detailed picture of the delights and mysteries of Point Heathcote, particularly as a night-time adventure. Then, we enter trademark random segments and questions. Just when you think this episode couldn't get any better, there's also a good chunk devoted to the joys of Mamma Mia! Photo by: Adam J. Marsh.

Episode 38: Sarah Tout, Voice Box Media Training

Episode 38 Sarah.jpg

The Take Away Special welcomes a very special guest who adds an air of absolute professionalism to everything they touch - presenter/musician Sarah Tout joins us for a lively, informative chat. A legendary presenter on RTRFM as well as head of Radio Training, Sarah talks about her start in broadcasting, her drive to develop and hone her craft, and her good and bad experiences in a lengthy career in interviewing people. All of this touches upon her new business, Voice Box Media Training, where she offers her considerable skills in broadcasting, presenting and podcasting to people looking to tell their own stories. We also run through a random assortment of Take Away Special Segments before hitting the jackpot in terms of discussing Sarah's deep fandom of Gilmore Girls as well as her own thoughts about love and romance, and the ways it is represented culturally. A marvellous conversation with one of the best voices in the game. For more information about Voice Box Media Training, consult their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/useyourvoicebox/
